The
Healthcare Assistants Programme, or HCA, is a flexible training programme for
care assistants, social workers, nursing au
xiliaries and those involved with
people in a caring environment in hospitals, nursing homes and the community.
The HCA syllabus
There are three parts to the HCA,
providing a flexible and adaptable approach to knowledge and skill development
of healthcare assistants.
Part 1: People
- Equal
opportunities, confidentiality, face-to-face communication, communicating
through barriers, awareness of abuse, communicating within the team, managing
visitors, clients interests, social contact, recreation and leisure, developing
oneself.
Part 2: Protection
– Non-verbal
communication, dealing with distress, health and safety, moving and handling,
materials and equipment, pressure ulcers, development programmes, cleaning and
infection control, health emergencies.
Part 3: Care
- Written
communication, pain and discomfort, cleanliness, grooming and dressing,
toileting, food and drink, rest, changing care needs, exercise, mobility,
journeys and visits, mother and baby, management of the deceased.
All learners will receive:
