Effective communication in healthcare is essential to the provision of first-class patient care. Perhaps more so than any other profession, it's important that doctors are able to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people. How you interact with your patients and their families will not only effect the quality of your medical practice, but will also influence how you and your hospital are perceived.
Course Content
By the end of this programme, delegates will be able to:
- Name 5 barriers to effective communication and how to have a strategy to overcome them
- Recognize the 7 ways to influence others, knowing when and when not to use each one
- Know the 4 styles of personalities and how to deal with them, understanding how opposites need behavioural strategies
- Name the percentages used in the TRIAD
- Name your assertive rights
- Discover how assertive you are and the differences between aggression, passivity and assertiveness
- Deal with conflict and understand how transactional analysis can assist
- Name three ego states and how to recognize them
- Explore how to really listen effectively; generally in life people hear but do not really listen – those that do really listen will have an advantage
- Consider how different people take in information and relate to different communication Styles - to understand the different styles allows us to use the appropriate Style to relay the message effectively
At the end of the course each delegate will also be able to:
- Keep a record of their learning experiences so that learning points can be reflected upon and referred to after the course
- Prepare a detailed Action Plan which sets SMART objectives, activities with timescales, together with the Record of Learning and Action Plan, a method of incorporating what you have learnt into your everyday practice
